GCCHS Beta Club Info

GCCHS charters a chapter of the National Beta Club. Membership in the GCCHS Beta Club is open to all students entering grades 4-11 that embody the Four Pillars of National Beta: Achievement, Character, Leadership, and Service. National Beta is divided into Elementary, Junior and Senior Beta.

What is the National Beta Club?
National Beta is the largest, non-profit, educational youth organization in America. Committed to recognizing high academic achievement, rewarding and nurturing worthy character, National Beta fosters leadership skills and encourages service to others. It was founded in 1934 and has worked with nearly seven million students. There are more than 445,000 active members and more than 9,600 nationally and internationally. National Beta Club offers leadership opportunities up to a national level, leadership summits, college scholarships, competition / camaraderie at state convention, graduation honors, plus other benefits. National Beta is recognized as a credible honor society and will look great on resumes. You can find more information at www.betaclub.org.

What is the difference between Senior Beta and Jr. Beta?

GCCHS Senior Beta is one division:

  • Senior Beta is for high school students (grades 9-12) Students must be successfully performing at a high school level academically. The minimum age for GCCHS Senior Beta is 14 years old. Students must be 14 years old as of August 1.
GCCHS Junior Beta is divided into two divisions:
  • Junior Beta (grades 6-8) is for upper elementary and middle school students. Students in Junior Division must be 11 years old as of August 1.
  • Elementary Beta (grades 4-5) Students joining Elementary division must be 9 years old as of August 1.

What are the criteria to join the GCCHS Beta Club?

1. You must be a GCCHS member in good standing.
2. The National Beta Club is an honor society. Since there is no uniform grading scale for homeschoolers, we cannot set an academic benchmark for membership. We are letting the parents and students decide if Beta is a good fit for the student academically.
3. Students wishing to participate in GCCHS Beta should exemplify worthy, moral, and ethical behavior; exemplary achievement; and commendable character. The motto for National Beta is: Let Us Lead by Serving Others. Our Beta club will promote the principles of the Beta Creed: Honesty, Service, Responsibility, Humility, Justice, Cooperation, Industriousness, and Charity.
4. Members will be held to high standards and expected to attend monthly meetings and club events. If you miss more than 6 required meetings a year without cause, you will be removed from the club. Cameras are requested to be turned on for ZOOM meetings to facilitate discussions.
5. Members agree to complete a minimum of 50 service hours throughout the school year (about 5 hours a month). These hours can be done with the club or individually. On January 1 of each year, sponsors will review the participation of each member. If a member does not have at least 25 hours submitted and have not communicated their reasons to a sponsor, they will be placed on probation. If they do not meet ALL the 50 hours requirement by the deadline of April 15, they will be removed from the club and will be ineligible to join the following school year.
6. Members are expected to be kind, courteous and respectful of other members, sponsors and families. Any behavior otherwise can be grounds for immediate removal.
7. Guardians/Parents/Family members are expected to support their Beta and follow the behavior guidelines and requirements of the club.
8. Members and their families will adhere to the GCCHS membership requirements.
9. Email is our primary form of communication. Emails must be responded to in a timely manner/date given (if applicable). Failure to respond to emails can result in probation.

How much are the yearly dues for GCCHS Beta?
The dues can vary each year. For the 2024-2025 school year, the membership costs for each student is $50. This cost covers National Beta dues, a club t-shirt, and other events and projects that arise throughout the year. This cost may increase or decrease next year. The students' interest in convention and other events will determine the expenses.

When and where will GCCHS Beta meet?
Monthly Meetings are held once a month on ZOOM for the 2024- 2025 school year:

  • Senior meetings are on the second Monday of the month from 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm.
  • Junior/Elementary meetings are the second Monday of the month from 4:30 pm - 5 pm.
